NorVic Management Development Programme

NorVic Management Development Programme

In 2009, the NorVIc federation of sixth form colleges in the north-east of England commissioned Sector Training to design and deliver a management development programme suitable for managers in this sector.
Its purpose is to improve college performance by developing the knowledge, skills and personal qualities of middle and first line managers, both curriculum and business support. The programme brings together managers from the respective colleges to exchange experiences and share best practice. It also provides a more cost effective way of developing managers, and aims to retain management talent in the sector.
The programme, which is designed to run over an academic year, has the following features:
  • 6 one day workshops of knowledge and skills development covering a range of relevant topics
  • 360 degree review process to establish base line and impact of the programme in terms of management competencies
  • Action research project to link theory with practice
  • Coaching model to support delegates and develop new skills
  • Accreditation from the University of Teesside
The programme is managed jointly by Pat O'Berg, based at Wyke College, and Gordon McAlpine of Sector Training.
Now in its second year, over 60 managers have been trained from the sixteen partner colleges and the programme has now been extended to new and aspiring managers.
Delegate feedback has been very positive.
